At Wallacetown School we endeavour to provide opportunities for your child to experience and participate in a range of sports. As we are a small semi-rural country school, we often do not have numbers to create full teams. However, we will merge with other similar sized schools in our surrounding area to create sports teams. This allows the children to mix with other children of the same age.
- Sports we offer include:
- Touch Rugby
- Rippa Rugby
Wallacetown School also participates in Athletics and Cross Country. As these are compulsory, all teachers take children through units focused on improving these skills.
During the year we have professionals from certain sports codes come in and take all classes in lessons around different sporting skills. Some include, volleyball, badminton, touch rugby, rippa rugby, tennis, athletics and passing and catching ball skills.
Each class has a daily fitness program which encourages all children to become active. This is a daily 10min time period before the children have milk (children receive daily milk as we are a member of ‘milk in schools’.
We also encourage students to participate in our annual Winter Day during Term 3. The whole school has one day in Term 3 where the children decide whether they try skiing at the Remarkables Ski Field in Queenstown or Ice Skating and a swim in Gore.
